At BW, we take pride in the quality of our vessels, and ensure that we maintain them to a high standard.
Through our Energy Management programme and close monitoring of our fleet’s performance, we continuously work to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. We have implemented a comprehensive and holistic energy management programme involving the whole organisation from ship to shore, and from commercial to technical departments. Multiple energy saving initiatives have been introduced and we are close to reaching our target of 10% reduction in fuel consumption from our 2009-2011 baseline. This equates to an emissions reduction of approximately 300,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
We are committed to continuing with efforts to enhance our vessel performance. Energy management is an integral part of our company culture and a part of our daily work and way of thinking:
- We closely monitor each individual vessel’s performance
- We have a continuous improvement process around the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP)
- We ensure continuous focus on energy management initiatives, design and technologies
- We ensure that proper training in Fuel Efficiency Management and Environmental Performance are received by onshore and seagoing personnel
Together with DNV and ABB, we are taking energy management to the next level. We have also embarked on an HRS (Harvesting, Recover and Store) project to evaluate all energy flows on board with the objective of identifying energy/losses suitable for harvesting, recovery and storage.
